Addison wins Brewer tournament

FLORETTE - Addison sent two local volleyball teams packing with wins in bracket play Saturday at the Brewer Pepsi Invitational.
Addison dominated the tournament with six straight wins, beating the host Lady Patriots and Hartselle to reach the tournament’s championship game.
Addison beat Catholic of Huntsville 25-17, 25-13 in the finals to claim the tournament championship.
The Lady Bulldogs won all 12 games played in the tournament to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Hartselle went 4-1 in the tournament and now sports a 5-2 overall record. The Lady Tigers’ only losses this season have come to Addison.
The Lady Tigers opened the tournament with a 25-9, 25-16 victory over Fairview and added wins over Grissom (25-16, 25-12), Westminster Christian (25-12, 25-16) and Madison Academy (25-20, 27-25) before falling to Addison in the championship.
Danville and Priceville also competed in the tournament, but only Danville reached the semifinals.
Brewer, who opened with a win over Athens on Thursday, went 2-2 in the tournament before losing in the quarterfinals.
Both of the Lady Patriots losses came to teams that reached the championship - Addison and Catholic.
Through five matches, Elizabeth Bromirski has led the Lady Patriots with 36 kills and 13 blocks, while Chelsey Smith has added 34 kills and nine blocks.
Whitney Borden had a team-high 42 assists through the first week of the season for the Lady Patriots. Brooke Harvel has added 36 assists.
In 11 games, Brewer’s B.J. Scott has 17 digs, while Hannah Crawford and Kayla Farr have recorded 15 digs each. Caitlin Rush has chipped in with 10 blocks for Brewer.
Danville picked up wins over Priceville, Madison Academy and Arab.
Hartselle senior Alex Holmes had team-highs of 26 blocks and 37 assists in the tournament. She also added 17 kills.
Olivia Golden finished with 15 kills, 31 assists and 20 digs in the win, while Cory Livingston added 17 kills, four aces, seven blocks and 45 digs.
The Lady Tigers also got 62 digs and two aces from Callie Miller. Katelyn Hill had 12 blocks and seven kills, while Kelly-Grace Johnson chipped in with nine assists, two aces, six blocks and three digs.
Savannah Lacey had six kills, two assists, two blocks and two digs.
Addison went 3-0 in pool play Saturday, beating Cullman (25-16, 25-10), Brooks (25-9, 25-22) and East Limestone (25-6, 25-22).
The Lady Bulldogs then beat Brewer 25-9, 25-11 in the quarterfinals to set up the second meeting of the season with Hartselle.
