Schools brace for swine flu

Hartselle schools are taking every precaution to ward off swine flu in its system.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed said each school has been supplied with handwashing materials and are cleaning tables, desks and buses to disinfect whenever possible.
At press time, Reed said there have been no reports of swine flu in any Hartselle school.
As of Aug. 19, the Alabama Department of Public Health said Morgan County had four confirmed cases of H1N1, commonly known as swine flu. State totals have topped 1,314 and that number is expected to climb sharply in the coming weeks.
Two deaths have been associated with the novel H1N1 influenza virus in Alabama. Infected people in the state have ranged from four weeks to 86 years, with the average age being 12. Those less than 18 years old represent 66 percent of all known cases.
