Hartselle dominates Muscle Shoals tourney

MUSCLE SHOALS - Hartselle continued its hot streak to start the 2009 volleyball season by going 6-0 Saturday to win the Muscle Shoals Invitationa championshipl.
The Lady Tigers beat Muscle Shoals 25-14, 22-25, 25-20 to win the championship.
Hartselle improved to 18-2 with the sweep of the tournament.
Hartselle recorded two wins over Florence and added wins over Deshler, Brooks, Lawrence County and Muscle Shoals to win the team title.
The Lady Tigers won 12 of 13 games to dominate the tournament.
Cory Livingston recorded 59 kills during the tournament. She also had 46 digs, four aces and four blocks.
Alex Holmes had team-highs in blocks (12) and assists (65). She added 27 kills, eight aces and 31 digs.
Olivia Golden had 30 kills, 47 assists, 10 aces, three blocks and 46 digs in the tournament.
Hartselle got 68 digs and three aces from Callie Miller, while Chelsea Bennich had five aces and 55 digs. Katelyn Hill added 10 kills and eight blocks, while Kelly-Grace Johnson finished with eight kills and seven blocks.
Danville sweeps
Danville beat rivals Brewer and Decatur in a tri-match last week at Decatur High School.
The Lady Hawks beat Brewer 28-26, 25-21 as Lindsay Simmons recorded 10 kills and three blocks. Ashley Nance added five kills.
Morgan Doherty had a team-high 20 assists. She also had two aces and two blocks. Tara Wimberley and Lacey Evans finished with eight digs each.
Against Decatur, Danville picked up a 25-15, 25-8 victory over the Lady Red Raiders.
Simmons had six kills, while Nance and Wimberley finished with five kills each.
Simmons and Kaitlin Wallace had five kills each, while Wallace led Danville with 12 assists. Evans had four digs.
Hartselle wins pair
Hartselle ran its area record to 2-0 with a win over Athens in a tri-match last week.
The Lady Tigers beat Athens 25-10, 25-13, 25-6 and added a 25-12, 25-21 victory over Hazel Green.
Alex Holmes had 12 kills and 26 assists, while Cory Livingston chipped in with 19 kills and 47 digs in the matches.
Hartselle also got 11 kills and 26 assists from Olivia Golden. Chelsea Bennich added 18 digs for the Lady Tigers.
Katelyn Hill had two blocks, while Livingston, Savannah Lacey and Kelly-Grace Johnson added one block each.
Johnson also had four aces, four digs and five kills for Hartselle in the wins.
Danville goes 1-1
Danville beat Lawrence County 25-13, 25-11 as Lindsay Simmons had nine kills and Ashley Nance contributed eight kills.
Kaitlin Wallace had a team-high 19 assists in the win.
The Lady Hawks also got three aces from Jada Callahan and three blocks from Tara Wimberley.
Lacey Evans finished with six digs, while Wimberley added five.
In the Lady Hawks’ 28-26, 28-26 loss to Hatton, Ashley Nance picked up 15 kills and three blocks for the Lady Hawks.
Lindsay Simmons added 12 kills in the loss.
Danville’s Kaitlin Wallace finished with 39 assists, while Lacey Evans and Wimberley had 14 and 11 digs respectively.
