Interest builds for first Massey School reunion

Word is getting out that former Massey School students are going to have a reunion and the excitement is building, according to Frances Vest Rowe, who is co-chairing the event with Joel Holladay.
Rowe said she learned a lot about the school and its history in the course of planning the reunion.
The reunion will be held Oct. 3 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Massey Volunteer Fire Department’s Community Room.
The original Massey School was built in 1907 and was located near Mt. Nebo Church. It had one classroom, was lighted by kerosene lamps and heated by a wood heater. Later a second classroom was added. The building closed in 1936 when a new three-classroom building was opened near McKendree Church. It was closed in 1969 and later sold and torn down. Its students were divided between Danville and Falkville high schools.
Each attendee is asked to bring a dish of finger food to share. Soft drinks and paper products will be furnished. Any old school photos or other memorabilia is welcome.
