Funeral for Carl Franklin Ward, 71, of Decatur, was Friday, September 18, at 11 a.m. at Central Church of Christ in Athens with Bill Perkins officiating and John Ward and Ward Webster assisting and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ward died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at his residence following a courageous three- year battle with cancer. He was born October 3, 1937, in Hartselle to Weldon Harlon Ward and Eva Wright Ward. He was a member of Central Church of Christ in Athens where he served as a deacon. He served in the Alabama National Guard and spent his working career in the electrical services and sales industry. He was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law, Devere Nowlin Macoy; and mother-in-law, Catherine Teague Macoy.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Macoy Ward; his mother, Eva Wright Ward; a daughter, Elizabeth Davis “Beth” Keys and husband Joel of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Carl Brad Ward of Springville and Jeremy Lile and wife Nikki of Maryville, Tenn.; two sisters, Syble Anders and husband Bobby of Hartselle and Mary South and husband Doug of Decatur; four brothers, Joel Ward and wife Danny of Hartselle, John Ward and wife Brenda of Woodstock, Ga., David Ward and wife Kim of Hartselle and Tony Ward and wife Tricia of Hartselle; four sisters-in-law, Cathy Stillwell and husband Mac of Nashville, Tenn., Janice Godwin and husband Don of Enterprise, Nancy Wallace and husband Albert of Decatur and Diane Ryan and husband John of Decatur; three grandchildren, Johnna Davis, Johnny Davis and Brittney Ward.
Pallbearers were Hal Baker, Brian Cagle, Charles Edwards, Hugh Johnson, Steven Stewart and Brett Speegle.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Don Bailey, Tom Corum, Jim Minor, Hoyt Nelson, Howell Puckett, Gene Stewart and Brian Free &Assurance.
