Delay no problem for Hawks

CARBON HILL - It took more than 19 hours and two separate trips of 260 miles before Danville was able to put the finishing touches on the Hawks’ 42-0 victory over Carbon Hill.
Danville improved to 3-0 in Class 3A, Region 7 play. The Hawks also moved to 4-0 overall, the school’s best start since the 2005 season.
The Hawks led Carbon Hill 14-0 Friday night before the game was postponed because of heavy storms that moved through the Walker County area. The decision to finally postpone the game came at 10:30 p.m.
Just a little over 12 hours later, the Hawks returned to Carbon Hill to tack on four more touchdowns to cruise to the win over the Bulldogs.
Levi George and Clint McAbee scored touchdowns in the first half Friday to give the Hawks the early 14-0 advantage. George scored on Danville’s first drive with a 5-yard run capping a possession that saw the Hawks’ running back pick up most of the yardage on the ground.
McAbee scored on a 16-yard run that gave the Hawks a 14-0 lead.
With rain picking up in the second quarter, Danville had several scoring plays nullified by penalties before lighting sent both teams to the locker rooms.
The next morning, the Hawks took up right where they had left off, getting a 39-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Hill to Jesse Posey.
George added a 14-yard touchdown run to help the Hawks push the lead to 27-0.
The lead grew when Hill hit Tyler Beck with a 23-yard touchdown pass and Hill added the two-point conversion to make it 35-0.
Posey added to the lead with his second touchdown run of the game, a 2-yard run that capped Danville’s scoring in the second half.
The Hawks finished the win with 420 yards of total offense, including 221 yards rushing on just 26 carries. Danville had 198 yards passing in the win.
Erwin 28, Brewer 8
After a two-day delay, Erwin put the final touches on its Class 5A, Region 6 victory over Brewer with two touchdowns Monday afternoon.
The game was postponed Friday with Erwin holding a 14-0 advantage.
The Eagles quickly added to the lead with a 49-yard touchdown run to put Erwin in front 22-0.
Billips had 202 yards rushing in the win - averaging just over 10 yards per carry for the Eagles.
Brewer’s lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter. Robert Taylor scored on a 3-yard run against the Eagles’ defense that allowed just 125 yards of total offense.
Brewer dropped to 0-3 in region play and 0-4 overall. The Patriots will travel to Walker Friday seeking their first win of the season.
Erwin improved to 3-1 in the region and 3-1 overall.
