Hartselle, Brewer gets splits in tri-match

Hartselle and Brewer’s tri-match with fifth-ranked Muscle Shoals Monday afternoon at Hartselle turned out to be a split for all three teams.
Muscle Shoals beat No. 2 Hartselle 13-25, 25-23, 25-18. 14-25, 20-18 in the opening match. It was Hartselle’s first area loss of the season.
Hartselle rebounded to beat Brewer 25-23, 25-12.
Earlier, Brewer upset Muscle Shoals 18-25, 25-16, 15-7.
After the split, Hartselle is now 37-8 overall and 5-1 in area play.
Cory Livingston and Olivia Golden had 22 and 20 kills respectively for the Lady Tigers.
Alex Holmes had 14 kills and 41 assists, while Callie Miller and Livingston finished with a team-high 37 digs.
Holmes also had nine blocks, two aces and 29 digs.
Kelly-Grace Johnson added nine kills, four assists, five blocks, nine digs and an ace. Savannah Lacey had two kills, two assists and five blocks, while Katelyn Hill added eight kills and nine blocks.
Danville sweeps
Danville beat Hamilton (25-13, 25-10, 25-10), Carbon Hill ( 25-11, 25-11, 25-21) and Winfield (25-18), 24-26, 25-8, 25-15) last Thursday to earn the right to host the area tournament in October.
Lindsay Simmons had 57 kills and six blocks in the wins. She had 21 kills in the four-game match with Winfield.
Ashley Nance had 31 kills in the three matches, while Tara Wimberley finished with 27 kills.
Kaitlin Wallace finished the afternoon with 106 assists.
Lacey Evans had a team-high 11 aces and 27 digs for the Lady Hawks. Wallace finished with nine aces and Wimberley had eight.
Nance and Wimberley finished with four blocks each. Wimberley added 25 digs and Morgan Doherty chipped in with 21.
Addison ousts Hartselle
Hartselle went 3-1 in the Danville Tournament of Champions Saturday with wins over West Morgan, Catholic and UMS-Wright.
The Lady Tigers only loss in the tournament came against Addison 25-18, 25-23 in bracket play.
Hartselle didn’t lose a single game in the tournament until the loss to Addison.
Cory Livingston led the Lady Tigers with 42 kills in the tournament. Alex Holmes added 26 kills, while Olivia Golden finished with 22 kills.
Holmes also had team highs with 43 assists, eight blocks and 39 digs.
Golden finished with 38 assists.
Savannah Lacey, Kelly-Grace Johnson and Katelyn Hill added three blocks each for the Lady Tigers.
Hartselle wins two
Hartselle picked up two wins last Thursday with strong performances from Alex Holmes, Cory Livingston and Olivia Golden.
The Lady Tigers beat East Limestone 25-16, 25-19 and added a 25-20, 25-12 victory over Hazel Green.
Holmes finished the afternoon with 13 kills, 29 assists, one ace and a pair of blocks. She also had 11 digs.
Livingston had 15 kills, two aces and 32 digs in the win, while Golden added 11 kills, 20 assists, one block and eight digs.
Kelly-Grace Johnson finished with eight kills, while Katelyn Hill added four kills and two blocks. Savannah Lacey had three kills and Savanne Howard and Kaylee Shelton had two kills each.
Johnson also had an assist, an ace, a block and three digs for the Lady Tigers.
Callie Miller had 21 digs.
Danville splits pair
Danville went 1-1 in a tri-match last Tuesday against Good Hope and Holly Pond.
The Lady Hawks came up short against Good Hope in a 25-19, 25-22 loss.
Lindsay Simmons and Ashley Nance had six kills each, while Kaitlin Wallace finished with a team-high 17 assists.
Ashley Nance, Simmons and Tara Wimberley added two blocks each. Wimberley also had a team-high four aces.
The Lady Hawks also got nine digs each from Morgan Doherty and Lacey Evans in the loss, while Wimberley finished with eight.
Simmons finished with 15 kills in the 25-27, 25-19, 16-14 victory over Holly Pond.
Wallace had 27 assists and Nance, Simmons and Wimberley added two blocks each. Wimberley also had a team-high 10 digs, while Evans added nine.
