Hartselle High hosts 26 groups

The music and marching skills of 27 varsity bands will be spotlighted Oct. 3, during the 14th annual Southern Hospitality Invitational Music Festival at J.P. Cain Stadium.
The all-day festival will begin at 9:45 a.m.with an opening performance by the Hartselle Junior High School Band. The Hartselle High School Band will be featured in an exhibition performance at 7:40 p.m.
Bands will compete as a whole for “Best in Class” and Challenge Cup recognition. The Challenge cup is awarded to the band that has the highest average score in the competition. It is returned each year until it is won by the same school three years in a row.
In addition, trophies are presented for Best Dance Line, Best Drum Major, Best Majorette Line, Best Percussion, Best Feature Twirlers and Best Color Guard.
The highest scoring color guard will receive the Dexter Greenhaw Memorial Award.
People like our festival because of the efficiency with which it is run and the fact that we bring in excellent judges. Our staff, parents and students also do a good job of welcoming visitors and making them feel at home.”
The festival is sponsored by the school’s Band Boosters and is one of the band’s major fundraising projects.
