Funeral for Mrs. Lillian M. “Momsie” Owens, 86, of Hartselle, was Tues., Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Father James Henderson officiating.
Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery.
Mrs. Owens died Fri., Sept. 25, 2009, at her residence. She was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Morgan County to Edward “Ned” Ezra Cary and Nanny “Cricket” Irene Burleson Cary. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church of Decatur and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved to sew, crochet and garden. She worked at W.T. Grant in Decatur as a department manager for many years. Homemaking was her passion. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Owens.
She is survived by a son, Charles Paul “Pete” Owens and wife Carol of Hartselle; two daughters, Joan Barbara Turner and husband Ralph of Denison, Tex. and Norma Kay Oglesby and husband Ken of Hartselle; a brother, Milton L. Cary and wife Louise of Washington; and a sister, Joyce Lee “Cary” Hawk of San Bernardine, Calif.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brandon Owens, Jason Owens, Maceon McGee, Chuck Turner, David Turner and Brad Turner. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Cloud, Sean Turner, Eric Grimes and Greg Jones.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Morgan County Human Society (Lighthouse for Animals).
