Hartselle City Schools are the recipient of a $120,000 grant from the Alabama Public School and College Authority.
State Senator Arthur Orr announced the grant last week along with other grants totaling $625,000 for public schools and libraries in Decatur and Morgan County.
Hartselle’s grant will be used to help fund the construction of new restrooms at J. P. Cain Football Stadium, upgrade technology and make emergency preparedness changes at all schools based on recommendations of the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency.
A lion’s share of the money, $270,000, will go to the Decatur City School System. It will be used to fund specific projects at Cedar Ridge Middle School, Woodmeade Elementary School, Oak Park Middle School and Decatur High School. A large part of the grant will also be used for technology upgrades at various schools throughout the system.
The Morgan County School System received $200,000. It will be used to improve technology in the central office and fund basic improvement projects at Danville-Neel Elementary School, West Morgan High School and Priceville High School.
The Decatur Public Library will use a $35,000 grant to upgrade technology and address compliance issues with the Americans with Disabilities Act at its 6th Avenue branch.
The State Legislature created the Public School and College Authority in 1965 for the purpose of funding construction, site procurement and equipment purchases related to public education.
