Funeral for Nellie Speegle Smith, 88, of Decatur, was Sunday, October 4, at 3 p.m., at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Walter Blackman, Charles Stone and Joe Hoover officiating.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Riverside Senior Living in Decatur. She was born December 29, 1920, in Morgan County to Charlie Wilson Speegle and Carrie Mae Halbrooks Speegle. She was a member of East Highland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey G. Smith, a brother and his wife, Ralph and Martha Speegle; a grandson, Patrick G. Smith; and a granddaughter, Shannon Smith.
She is survived by a son, Gordon Smith and wife Pat of Decatur; a brother, Erskine Speegle and wife Marie of Hartselle; two sisters, Louise Vachule of Pasadena, Tex. and Martha Ann Couey and husband Alvin of Hartselle; a granddaughter, Stacia Barcal and husband Kelly of Decatur; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Cantrell, Hannah Barcal and Amber Barcal.
Pallbearers were Noah Webster, Alan Drinkard, Bill Smelser, Randy Dewberry, Larry Long and Tom Kemp.
