Brewer closes season with win

FLORETTE – Brewer’s Patriots reeled off their second straight win as they pounded the outmanned Priceville Bulldogs, 48-7, in a rival contest at James R. Tucker Stadium Thursday night.
The win lifted the Patriots to 2-8 on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 1-9.
Running back Philip Newby was a lethal weapon in Brewer’s attack. He racked up 197 yards rushing on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns. Quarterback Tyler Parker had a notable performance, too. He completed three of four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
The Patriots fumbled on their first possession but made up for the loss by scoring the next time they had the ball. Newby scored on a 38-yard run and Kyle Downs kicked the PAT to make the score 7-0 with 5:33 left in the first quarter. The touchdown capped a three-play 94-yard drive and followed a 55 yard run by Newby.
The Bulldogs tied the score at 7-all on an 18-yard pass from quarterback Chance Ellsworth to Tanner Schell and a PAT kick by Cody Gibbs with 9:00 left in the second quarter. The touchdown capped a 12-play, 54-yard drive.
The Patriot s answered with a 9-play, 70-yard touchdown drive. Newby finished the drive with a 5-yard run to make the score 13-3 with 5:01 left in the second period. Downs’ kick for the extra point was no good.
A 45-yard pass from Parker to Taylor Bowling and a two-point conversion r un by Aaron Taylor gave the Patriots a 21-7 advantage with 3:06 left in the first half.
Brewer got the ball back on an interception by Parker and scored again with no time left on the clock on a 30-yard pass from Parker to Bowling. Downs added the extra point to make the score 28-7 at halftime.
The Patriots boosted their lead to 35-7 on an 11-yard run by Newby and an extra point kick by Downs with 8:44 left in the third period. The TD capped a 63-yard, 7-play drive.
They scored again on a 5-yard run by Nathan Styles with 2:17 left in the third period. Downs booted the extra point to make the score 41-7.
Brewer’s final touchdown came on a 33-yard run by T.J. Graham with 5:36 left in the game. Down’s kick for the PAT was no good leaving the score at 48-7.
Brewer’s offense had 403 total yards with 332 yards rushing and 71 yards passing. Priceiville had 172 yard of offense, 39 yards rushing and 172 yards passing.
Schell paced the Bulldogs with six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown and 27 yards rushing on three carries.
