Danville, Priceville students top winners in beef cook-off

Erica Parker, a senior at Danville High School, and Alissa Fortinberry, a seventh grader at Priceville Junior high School, claimed top honors at the 2009 Morgan County Cattlewomen’s annual Beef Cook-off. The event was conducted at Sparkman Civic Center in Hartselle Oct. 28.
Erica won first place in the senior devision with “Beef Stroganoff,” competing in a field of 27 contestants. She received a $75 cash prize and earned the right to compete in the State Beef Cook-off next January.
Alissa’s “Mexican Lasagna” won first place in the junior division in competition with six other contestants. She claimed a $50 cash prize and qualified to compete in the State Beef Cook-off.
Other senior division winners were: Haley Landers, second place, Priceville High School, “Tuscan Short Ribs with Polenta;” Ben Barnett, third place tie, Danville High School, “Cheese-burger Macaroni;” Brid-get Jackson, third place tie, Falkville High School, “Fried Beef Pies;” Kayla May, fourth place, Falkville High School, “Mexican Lasagna;” and Rebecca Miller, fifth place, Brewer High School, “Southwestern Hamburger Casserole.”
The winners received cash prizes in the amounts of $60, $45, $45, $30 and $15, respectively.
Winning runner-up honors in the junior division were: Savannah Garrison, second place, Falkville Middle School, “Spaghetti;” and Shelby Sims, third place, Danville Middle School, "Smoked Beef Brisket.”
They received cash prices of $35 and $20, respectively.
The entries were judged by Perry Eddy, Marsha Roberts, Carol Jane White, Jerral Miller, Pam Gray and Nanette Edde.
