Ida ‘Big Granny’ Nicholson

Funeral for Ida “Big Granny” Nicholson, 98, of Hartselle was Tuesday, November 17, at 7 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Wendell Callahan officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, November 18, at 10 a.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Nicholson died Sunday, November 15, 2009, at her residence. She was born October 12, 1911, in Morgan County to Oscar Childress and Emma Summerford Childress. She was a homemaker, the last charter member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and was best known for good cooking and loving her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Nicholson; two sons, Lloyd “Mutt” Nicholson and Lewis Nicholson; and two daughters, Lois Parker (Curtis) and Sue Roden.
She is survived by Silas Roden and Paulette Tudor, both of Hartselle; 11 grandchildren, Allen Vest and wife Felicia, Joan Roden and husband Jerry, Bobby Vest, Sherry Halbrooks and husband A.D., Greg Nicholson and wife Pam, Shelia Archer and husband Marlon, James Nicholson and wife Becky, Jan’e Byrd and husband Chris, Fredia Layton and husband Don, Donald Parker and Linda Herndon; a sister, Ima Rachel Payne of Hartselle; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Allen Vest, Bobby Vest, Greg Nicholson, Alex Archer, Caleb Byrd, Ethan Byrd, Allen Hardy and Nick Hardy.
