Oops! Christmas decorations don’t fit
By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Perhaps you have noticed that Hartselle’s Christmas street decorations don’t project out into the streets as they have in the past. Instead, they are set at a 45 degree angle and are less visible to traffic moving east and west on Main Street.
There’s a good reason for that, according to Jeff Johnson, director of the city’s Department of Development.
“We turned them at an angle when we realized that when mounted normally they extended two or three inches beyond the curb,” Johnson said. “We didn’t want to risk them being hit and broken by vehicles with extended width and height.”
Johnson said when the new decorations were ordered two years ago the height and location of the new light posts was taken into consideration.
After they arrived, however, they realized not enough allowance was made for the length of the mounting brackets.
The decorations were installed prior to Christmas Open House and will remain up through the Christmas holidays.
