Parade back on for Dec. 3
By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Hartselle’s Christmas parade will be held Dec. 3 after all, now that the Hartselle Tigers are no longer in competition for a state football championship. The fun-filled event will get under way at 7 p.m.
Prior to the Hartselle vs. McAdory quarterfinal playoff game Nov. 20, the parade’s sponsor—Hartselle Kiwanis Club—had decided to delay the event by one week in the event Hartselle won the game. The Hartselle loss reversed that decision.
All parade entries must be registered. Application forms are available at the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce office, or on line at www.hartsellechamber.com.
The entry fee is $15 for non-profit organizations and $30 for political candidates or organizations.
Santa Claus will accompany the parade riding atop the city’s No. 1 fire engine. He will greet spectators, children in particular, and will be followed by volunteer helpers, bearing candy treats for distribution to children along the parade route.
Other parade units will include marching bands, emergency vehicles, antique cars and tractors and amateur floats competing for $500 in cash prizes.
The parade will follow its usual route, commencing in the parking lot at J.P Cain Stadium and concluding in the old Wal-Mart parking lot on Highway 31, South. Parade viewing will be at its best on Railroad Street from Hickory to Main and on Main Street from Hickory to Corsbie. A sidewalk section in front of The Depot will be marked off and reserved for special needs children and their families.
