Wilmer ‘Shep’ Shepherd

Funeral for Wilmer “Shep” Shepherd, 86, of Decatur was Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mason Booth, Bryan Chaffee and Nick Digiralano officiating.
Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Shepherd died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2009, at his residence. He was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Louisiana to Ulma Wayne Shepherd and Rozsa Lee Shelton Shepherd. He went to work for Standard Oil in 1946 in Louisiana and retired from Amoco as a plant manager in 1980. During his years of service to the company he lived and worked in Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Alabama, California, Japan, Holland, Taiwan and Turkey. He loved playing golf and made many special friends through the years. He also loved yard work and was very proud of his home on Chapel Hill Road. He served in the Navy in World War II from 1940-1945. He served aboard the USS Washington BB56. He was honored to be able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in August to visit the World War II memorials and was very proud to be a veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie and two brothers, Wayne and Billy Shepherd.
He is survived by three daughters, Suzanne Ran-dolph of Danville, Jan Chaffee of Oldsmar, Fla. and Judy Shepherd of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a son, Joe Shepherd of Missoula, Montana; four grandchildren, Amy Garnett, Lisa Thomas, Marla Cox and Nick Digirolamo; and nine great-grandchildren, Hunter Garnett, Haley Garnett, Karlie Garnett, Kylee Thomas, Kaina Thomas, Braden Cox, Carson Cox, Yuri and Gigi Bargas.
Pallbearers were John Mullican, Chris Garnett, James Thomas, Len Cox, Nick Digirolamo and Hunter Garnett.
