The Hartselle Quarterback Club honored 21 senior football players and seven senior cheerleaders for their contributions to the Tigers’ football program at its post-season banquet Monday night at First Baptist Church.
The seniors were presented framed action photos from the Tigers’ 10-3 season that saw Hartselle reach the quarterfinals in Class 5A.
Additionally, former player Oscar Knox was formally inducted into the Hartselle High School Football Hall of Fame.
Knox was a standout at Morgan County High School, playing for the Tigers during the 1951-54 seasons.
A center/linebacker, Knox was named the team’s most valuable player after his senior season and went on to play in the North Alabama All-Star game, now the North-South All-Star Classic.
His playing career didn’t end after his senior season in 1954, however. Knox went on to play at Auburn where he was part of the Tigers’ 1957 team that won the Southeastern Conference and national championships.
He was inducted into the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
Godsey awarded just one individual honor at the banquet - the Virgil Starks Memorial Award - for the team’s player with the highest grade point average.
Senior receiver Mac Hendrix, who finished the season with 36 catches, received the award after posting a 4.047 grade point average at Hartselle.
Starks was an assistant athletic director at Auburn in charge of academics before suffering a fatal heart attack several years ago.
Seniors honored were Logan Cain, Hendrix, Steven Crowe, Jake Wallace, Chase Hall, Devin Malone, Ethan Boggs, Hunter Hester, David Filiatrault, Cody Allen, John Roberts, Nate McCarley, Skylar Tapscott, Robby Reese, Drew Butler, Chad Hampton, Garrett Baldwin, Andrew Hampton, Payton Sittason, David Jones and Dylan Stephenson.
Senior cheerleaders included Jami Dean (head), Ali Lemmond (co-head), Britney Brothers, Chelsea Maze, Allie Shelton, Kayla Wilson and Katie Young.
Shelton was honored for having the squad’s highest GPA, while Dean received the Leadership Award.
The squad’s Best Attitude award was presented to Young.
The Kathryn Ann Sims Memorial Award was presented to Brothers.
