Funeral for Ruth Scott Grammer, 90, of Hartselle was Friday, Jan. 15, at 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hartselle with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Grammer died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010. She was born March 13, 1919, in Tuscaloosa County to Morgan W. Scott and Betty Gothard Scott. Her father worked for L&N Railroad and the family transferred to Falkville in 1932. She graduated from Falkville High School in 1935 and enrolled at Athens College with plans to become a home demonstration agent or teacher. She married Henry H. “Dick” Grammer in 1937 and spent several years raising her family of four sons and one daughter. She returned to Athens College in 1976 and graduated in 1977. She retired in 1985 after many years as an elementary school teacher in Morgan County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H. “Dick” Grammer; her parents; two brothers, Dr. Morgan Scott and Winston M. Scott; two sisters, Mrs. China Pierce and Mrs. Ora Jones; a son, Richard Winston Grammer; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Grammer.
She is survived by a daughter, Jan G. Earwood and husband Jay of Baileyton; three sons, Jim W. Grammer and wife Sharon, Bob Grammer and Howard S. Grammer and wife Sandra, all of Hartselle; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
