Travis ‘Shorty’ Tyree

Funeral for Travis “Shorty” Tyree, 79, of Decatur was Monday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Greg Alred and Larry Davis officiating.
Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Tyree died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 9, 1930 in Cullman County to Orville Tyree and Stella Cooke Tyree. He was a retired pipefitter for Southeast Corrision and Engineering. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty in Korea. He was a Baptist, a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ferrell Tyree and Ned Tyree; and a sister, Beatrice Henry.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Tyree of Dectur; five sons, Mitchell Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of Tampa, Fla., Larry Johnson of N.C., Robert Groves of Decatur and Michael Groves of Somerville; five daughters, Michelle Thompson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Vicky Grissom and Suzie Abels, both of Decatur, Becky Burney of Town Creek and Rosie Peek of Hokes Bluff; a brother, Eugene Tyree of N.C.; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Steve Burney, Bobby Groves, Michael Groves, Michael Peek, Tim Bogan and Matthew Grissom.
