Danville salvages split at LCHS

MOULTON - Second-ranked Danville ended the regular season on a sour note Monday night with a 42-41 loss to Class 4A Lawrence County.
The Lady Hawks, now 20-6 overall, watched a 10-point lead disappear in the fourth quarter as Lawrence County hit 10 of 15 free throws over the final eight minutes of play to come away with the victory.
Kayloni Cross and Sarah Terry finished with 11 points each for Danville.
Lawrence County pushed into the lead late in the game with a bucket from Bri Wadkins and a free throw from Jaslyn Fossett.
Danville answered with a 3-pointer from Cross with 51 seconds remaining in the game to tie the game at 41-41.
Lindsay Simmons had a block in the final minute and the Lady Hawks forced a steal, but Wadkins hit a free throw with two seconds remaining to seal the win.
Lawrence County outscored Danville 22-9 over the final eight minutes of play to stun the Lady Hawks.
Danville never got off a final shot as the game expired.
Fossett scored 22 points to lead Lawrence County. She scored 13 point in the fourth quarter.
Danville will host the Class 3A, Area 11 tournament beginning tonight. The Lady Hawks will face Carbon Hill in the opening round of the tournament.
The championship game will be Saturday at 2 p.m.

Danville 84, Lawrence County 81, 2OT
Erick Cordova scored 26 points Monday night against Lawrence County, but none were bigger than the three he scored on his final shot.
Cordova hit a 3-pointer at the end of the second overtime period to send Danville to an 84-81 victory over the Red Devils on the road.
Dylan Woods added 13 points for the Hawks in the win, while Dillon Childers added 12 points.
Lawrence County opened up a 35-25 lead through two quarters of play, but the Hawks tied the game at 63-63 after four quarters.
William McWhorter led Lawrence County with 23 points. Nolan Coffey added 22.
