Man arrested for writing bad check
By Staff
Allegedly penning a phony check in exchange for an automobile found on the popular website Craigslist landed a Huntsville man in jail last week.
Hartselle Police arrested Scott Lawhorne, of 2412 Penn St., SW, Huntsville. He is charged with theft of property in the first degree. His arrest followed a Jan. 24 incident when a Hartselle resident listed a vehicle for sale on Craigslist. Lawhorne contacted the victim to view the car and then purchased it with a certified check.
The seller later attempted to deposit the check into his bank account and was notified it was a counterfeit. It was also determined the purchaser had used a fake name and address during the sale.
Lawhorne was later identified as a suspect and was arrested at his home by Huntsville police last week.
He was taken to Morgan County Jail on $5,000 bond.
