City leaders go to Washington seeking federal assistance

Local officials are hoping their most recent trip to Washington DC will provide tangible results in the near future.
A 12-person delegation visited with members of the Alabama delegation to discuss Hartselle’s agenda. Included in that agenda was addressing flooding that’s caused several businesses to close or relocate from downtown Hartselle.
A flood mitigation study will cost some $200,000 and has to be conducted before an engineering firm can be hired to design a solution. Tankersley said the request was presented in Washington and will also be discussed with the local legislative delegation.
Relieving downtown flooding wasn’t the only issue on the city’s agenda. As in past years, one of the top issues was transportation.
Tankersley said the city has kept essentially the same items on its agenda for several years.
Previous trips have proven to be beneficial to the city. Recently, federal grants have paid for cameras to be placed in police cars and a planned citywide wireless network.
