Danville's a threat again
By By Todd Thompson, Hartselle Enquirer
Danville didn’t draw any attention during the regular season in the Class 3A boys’ basketball rankings, but the Hawks are getting plenty of notice now.
Danville is in a postion where one more win would send the team to the Northwest Regional at Wallace State Community College.
After struggling early in the season, especially offensively in Oldacre’s new system, the Hawks are starting to gain the attention of opposing coaches.
They certainly gained the respect of teams in Class 3A, Area 11 after winning the area tournament as a fourth seed.
Oldacre brought a new style of play to Danville and the Hawks were slow to adjust to the change in style after longtime head coach Robert Pope retired last spring.
Danville opened the season with just five wins in its first 12 games. Since that time, the Hawks have been a better team on the court.
Five times during the early portion of the season, the Hawks were limited to less than 40 points. Danville averaged almost 75 points a game in the area tournament.
But Oldacre’s still looking for the team’s best game of the year.
That team concept has helped the Hawks take another step toward Hanceville.
