FLORETTE - A hard-earned 58-50 sub-regional win over Central- Tuscaloosa Thursday night propelled Brewer’s Lady Patriots into the Northwest Regional Tournament at Wallace State Community College at Hanceville. They were scheduled to play Russellville’s Lady Tigers, a 54-44 winner over Lee-Huntsville, in a 9 a.m. matchup Wednesday, Feb. 17.
The Lady Patriots were up by two points, 31-29, at halftime before they made a 14-2 run and put the game out of reach. The Lady Falcons trailed by double digits throughout most of the second half,
By winning the Lady Patriots clinched their fourth straight trip to the regional tournament. Last year they reached the Class 5A championship game in Birmingham before being eliminated.
Allen said the Lady Patriots struggled some in the first half because they made too many turnovers.
When asked if his team is exceeding the expectations he had for them at the beginning of the season, Allen said “no.”
Smith paced the Lady Patriots with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Bromirski had 12 points and eight rebounds, Oldacre scored 12 points and Rheagan Harvel had seven assists, six steals and six points.
Central-Tuscaloosa had three players score in double figures. Shaykelia Dixon led the way with 23 points, Toborsha Holley had 14 points and Latasha Russell chipped in 10 points.
