Hartselle is receiving yet another slice of federal money, this time through the Morgan County Commission.
Hartselle was awarded American Recovery Zone Bonds totaling approximately $ 4.2 million as a result of action taken by the Morgan County Commission at its meeting on Tuesday.
At the same time, Athens State University was awarded $3.2 million in the same bonds.
The commission announced a $7.2 million allocation of the bonds at a previous meeting and invited public entities to make requests. Hartselle asked for $7.2 million as a part of an $18 million bond issue it is in the process of selling to help finance the a new high school, estimated at a cost of $40 million.
ASU was seeking help to finance an estimated $8 million Downtown Deca-tur Arts Center, and got what it asked for.
The Recovery Zone bonds are eligible for a 45 percent recovery of interest over the 30-year life of the bonds.
District 4 Commissioner Greg Abercrombie wanted Hartselle to receive a $5.6 million instead of a $4.2 million share of the bonds.
