Hartselle second in county tournament

DECATUR - Hartselle finished second in the first Morgan County girls’ tennis tournament after winning one singles and one doubles final.
Decatur won the tournament after winning five of six singles finals. The Lady Red Raiders also won two of three doubles titles to finish with 35 points in the tournament - 21 ahead of Hartselle - based on a format of two points for every singles victory and three for doubles wins.
Austin finished third with 10 points, followed by Decatur Heritage’s two points.
Hartselle’s Shelley Scarborough won the No. 1 singles championship with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Decatur’s Ivey-Katherine Weaver.
Hartselle’s No. 3 doubles team of Nicholle Smith and Elizabeth Connell gave the Lady Tigers another title with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory in the championship.
Connell fell short at No. 4 singles, losing to Decatur’s Sarah Sherrill 7-6, 6-4 in the championship.
The Lady Tigers’ Taylor Bean also reached the finals at the No. 5 singles slot, losing 7-5, 6-1 to Decatur’s Wiley Underwood.
