Hartselle High School has been selected as one of 20 high schools to participate in the A Plus College Ready Program, the purpose of which is to increase the number of students prepared to take rigorous advanced placement courses in math, science and English.
Gov. Bob Riley announced the selection at the State Capitol in Montgomery March 10. Representing the Hartselle School District at the meeting were Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed, HHS Principal Jeff Hyche and Director of Instruction Dr. Nancy Horton.
Funding for the program is the result of a private-public partnership that includes $1.3 million from the state, a $13.2 million grant from the National Math and Science Initiative and additional matching funds currently being raised from Alabama donors over the next five years.
These 20 high schools join 23 others already participating in the program and represent A Plus College Ready’s expansion across the state.
