Nation moving in wrong direction
Editor,
A few months ago I wrote that President Obama was going to ram his healthcare down Americans’ throats. The 27th of March he plans to go ahead with it.
Our Social Security is almost broke. They are about to pass legislation to pay illegal aliens that come into this county to draw our Social Security money.
Right now Americans are under the control of a radical Marxist president. and an unstoppable liberal majority in the House and Senate. They are talking about reinstating the death penalty if they have not already done so. When you die the government will collect 45 percent of what you were going to give to your grandchildren.
Obama, Pelosi and Reid are going to take your money and “redistribute” it to people who are too lazy to work for a living. They are considering passing the fairness act to shut down constructive television and radio programs.
When I first realized what Joe Biden and the liberals were trying to do it has become painfully obvious to me that the liberals will try every trick to humiliate former President Bush and destroy the conservative movement.
They are using their congressional majority to hold hearings and make vile, blatantly false accusations against Bush. This is against the Constitution of the U.S.A.
You can see “we the people, for the people, by the people” has just gone out the window. “We the party, for the party, by the party” is taking us to a train wreck.
I urge you to write your congressman and senator and let them know how you feel.

Let’s put money to good use
Editor,
An editorial appeared in the March 8, 2010, Decatur Daily which addressed the “unique opportunity” for Morgan County to capitalize on additional TVA in-lieu-of tax revenue. The additional revenue is unique, however, the idea of entities pooling revenue for a common Morgan County initiative is not.
In the mid-1980`s, all seven county municipalities and the County Commission teamed to pool prorated shares of TVA in-lieu-of tax revenue to service a bond making possible the development of Mallard-Fox Creek Industrial Park. Last fall, ground was broken on Morgan Center Business Park along I65, also made possible by their continued teamwork to utilize a similar financing arrangement. Mallard-Fox is a proven success with far-reaching benefits to the county for over two decades. Optimism is high that Morgan Center will prove no less successful.
Individuals, businesses and governments have been significantly impacted during the current recession, and this “new” revenue would help bridge shortfalls until the economy improves. However, widely prorated dispersal of this money vs. collective use for a common initiative should be carefully and non-parochially studied and debated. Once the money is incrementally distributed and becomes absorbed in routine budgets of receiving entities, there is little likelihood of future recovery to support a common county initiative.
The decision for use of this money should involve county-wide input, and objectively weigh short- and long-term benefits. Future potential benefits and geographic location (if a project) should be carefully analyzed in view of demographic trends and existing and planned infrastructure. Prudence suggests that the I-65 Corridor between Priceville and Falkville, central to the entire county, prominently enter the decision process. Only through vision, creative thinking and teamwork will a decision in the best interest of the entire county be made.
