Man found in locked unit

Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a Moulton man last week but not until he allegedly offered them a unique idea on his plan to escape.
Gary Dewayne Flake, 28, is charged with burglary in the third degree after his March 22 arrest. Sheriff’s deputies said Eric McHan, who owns Richards Mini Storage on Danville Road in Neel, called 911 at 10 p.m. after discovering someone parked outside a storage building and another person inside one of the units.
The person in the car ran when he saw McHan and deputies arrived. At that time, they discovered the person in the storage building was locked inside.
They used bolt cutters to remove the padlock and found Flake, wearing gloves and a light strapped around his forehead.
Flake was interviewed at which time he allegedly told deputies he went into an unlocked storage building and them climbed over into a locked unit. Investigator Kyle Wilson interviewed Flake and asked him how he planned to get out of the padlocked building. Flake replied, “I figured it’d be easier to get out from the inside.”
Flake’s truck was impounded. He posted $2,500 bond and was transferred to Lawrence County Jail to face charges of violating parole.
