Hartselle Chamber of Commerce recognized the late Bill Camp as the recipient of its seldom used Chairman’s Award of Excellence at its annual meeting March 30.
A highly respected community and business leader, Camp died suddenly in December 2009.
In presenting the award, Chamber President Susan Hines described the honoree as “the kindness, most gentle person you would ever meet…the ultimate team player.”
Prior to his death, Camp was heavily involved in the development of the city’s Special Needs Accessible Playground. He and members of his staff at Coldwell Banker Team Hartselle Real Estate donated $10,000 to the project in 2009 from a percentage of their commissions over an extended period of time. It was the largest donation received from a small business.
Other individuals receiving the chamber’s annual awards were: Frank Miller, Hartselle Park and Recreation director, Thomas M. Guyton Humanitarian Award; Larry Hannah, owner of Hannah’s Lawn &Landscape, E R. Roberts Business and Civic Award; Bob Francis, SNAP chairman, John J. Sparkman Citizenship Award, and Kathy White Goodwin, marketing director at Hartselle Medical Center, Ambassador’s Award.
Eli Gold, the radio voice of University of Alabama football, was guest speaker.

Newcomer directors are Preuitt, Jack Templeton, Anna Wilson, Freda Thompson, Gary McCain, Jeff Redmond, Kathy Goodwin, Larry Hannah and Sandra Sowder.
