Falkville girls win track sectional meet

FALKVILLE — Falkville had 26 athletes qualify for the state meet with strong performances in the Section 3 meet at South Park.
Falkville’s girls’ team won the section championship with 199 points, 39 ahead of Cold Springs.
The Blue Devils’ boys’ team finished second in the section meet with 134 points. Cold Springs dominated the meet with 230 points.
Falkville’s girls won two relay events and picked up six individual first places in the meet.
Myka McCarley had first place finishes in the 100 hurdles and the triple jump to lead the Lady Devils.
In the 100 hurdles, McCarley ran a 18.12 to win the sectional title. Falkville’s Jaclyn Koerber and Amber Riddle placed second and third.
Other Falkville girls to finish first were Riddle (300 hurdles), Koerber (pole vault), Hilary Eason (shot put) and Angela Robbins (discus).
Patricia Kilgore was second in both the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run.
Falkville’s Dylan Kyle won the boys’ pole vault with a height of 11 feet.
The Blue Devils’ 4×400 meter relay team of Heath Blanchard, Chris Holloway, Dylan Kyle and Travis Sumeral took the sectional title with a time of 3:49.97.
Class 5A, Section 4
Hartselle’s Katie Clark and Ashton Pennington finished first and second respectively in the girls’ javelin at the Class 5A, Section 4 meet at the University of Alabama.
Clark finished with a top throw of 113 feet, one inch to claim the sectional title.
Pennington finished with a best of 98 feet, eight inches.
Quanesha Burks won the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.64 in the finals. Burks was also third in the long jump at 16 feet, 3.25 inches.
Class 5A, Section 3
Brewer’s girls finished second behind Scottsboro in the Class 5A, Section 3 meet at Scottsboro High School Monday afternoon.
Elizabeth Bromirski won the girls’ high jump after clearing 4 feet, 10 inches on one of her attempts. She was also second in the triple jump and the long jump.
Emily Trotter took the section championship in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:22.39. She was nearly four seconds faster than Scottsboro’s Maggie Thompson.
Katie Brakke was second in the 800-meter run, while Trotter finished third. Trotter also finished second in the girls’ 3200 meters.
Brewer’s boys finished 10th overall. Clay Oden was fourth in the 3200-meter run.
Class 4A, Section 4
Priceville’s Whitney White finished second in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet to lead the Lady Bulldogs to an 11th place finish in the Section 4 meet at Guntersville High School.
Priceville’s boys were 12th overall.
