Kilgore leads Snead State to title
DECATUR — Katie Kilgore, a former Hartselle tennis standout now playing at Snead State won a singles title and teamed up with Jennifer Black to win a doubles final at the Alabama Community College Conference’s state tournament at Point Mallard recently.
Kilgore’s wins helped send Snead State to the state team championship and secured a spot in the national tournament May 2-5 in Tuscon, Ariz.
Kilgore won the No. 3 singles championship as Snead State went 11-for-11 on points in the tournament.
“Each of us stepped up, worked hard and never gave up,” Kilgore said after the tournament. “We really pulled together as a team at the tournament and it was an experience that I will always cherish. Nationals, here we come.”
Kilgore played at No. 4 singles during the season but moved up to No. 3 after an injury knocked the Lady Parsons’ top player out of the tournament.
The National Junior College Athletic Association tournament will be played at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tuscon.
