Enquirer among state’s best
The Hartselle Enquirer has once again been named one of the top large weekly newspapers in the state, earning top honors in community service, sports and design.
The awards were announced by the Alabama Press Association last week.
The Enquirer received second place in the General Excellence category for large weekly newspapers. It’s the second consecutive year the Enquirer has earned the honor.
Enquirer staff writer Clif Knight earned one of the contest’s top awards, the Best Public Service honor, for his story “Midway Manor grandmother fights eviction and wins.” The story detailed the threatened eviction of a Hartselle grandmother and the eventual decision not to force her to leave her apartment.

• First place, Best Humorous Column by Leada Gore
• First place, Best Sports Photo by Thompson
• First place, Best Niche Publications for the book about Hartselle High School Tigers baseball championship.
• Second place, Best Lifestyle pages
• Second place, Best Sports In-Depth Coverage by Thompson
• Second place, Best Sports Single Event Story by Thompson
Some 64 newspapers submitted 2,525 entries in this year’s contest. The awards will be presented at the APA’s June 5 convention.
The Enquirer also received awards in the APA’s advertising contest. Those awards included:
