Wayne Summerford

Wayne Summerford, 76, of Marshall, Tex., died April 13, 2010.
Mr. Summerford was born in Hartselle on July 16, 1934, to Rhuel “Jack” Wesley Summerford and Evelyn Williams Summer-ford. Hartselle always had a treasured place in his heart for the larger family and friends still residing in and around Morgan County. He graduated from Morgan County High School in 1952. He was valedictorian of his senior class at MCHS, having been elected to the student council, “M” Club and as a representative to the National Honor Society and Boy’s State conventions. He was also a talented all-district sportsman and served as captain of the football and basketball teams. After graduation he attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn Univer-sity) and studied to be a chemical engineer. After graduation he served his country as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was a lifelong member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Auburn Alumni Association, Thiokol Long-horn Management Club and the American Rocket Society.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Solomon Summer-ford; a son, A.Keith Summerford and wife Rhonda; three daughters, Sharon Kay Summerford, Cynthia Summerford Birdwell and Jennifer Summerford Colby and husband Hayden; a brother, Jack Summerford and wife Pat; six grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
A private family memorial will be held this summer in Morgan County.
