Let the fun begin – Pool reopens May 29
It’s almost summertime and that means it’s time for Hartselle’s swimming pool to reopen.
The pool will open for the season May 29. Hours of operation are 1-5:50 p.m. and 6-8:50 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Day rates are $5 for ages 7 and older and $3 for those 6 and younger. Evening rates are $3 and $2, respectively.
Individual pool passes are $65 and a family of four is $175. Additional passes may be purchased for $35 each. The pool will close for the season on Aug. 15.
The pool is just one of the attractions offered this summer through Hartselle’s Park and Recreation Department. Other summer events include:
• Water aerobics classes will begin June 2 with teacher Valerie Johnson at the Hartselle pool. Classes will meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:50-8:50 a.m. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit. Pre-registration is required at the Civic Center.
• A cheerleading uniform swap/sale will be held June 5 from 1-5 p.m. at the youth football press box in Grady and Margie Long Park. You can bring your daughter’s uniform and buy, swap or sale for this season’s Hartselle Football Inc. youth league.
• Once Upon a Time, a special in the park reading time, will be held June 8, 22, July 6, 20 and Aug. 3. Children ages 3-5 are invited to hear a story, enjoy snack and make a craft with from 9-11 a.m. Call the Civic Center at least two days prior to the reading day to if you will be attending. There will be a $2 fee for each child to cover snack and craft materials.
• A Princess Party, complete with games, tiaras, makeup and “tea” at noon, will be June 10 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The party is for ages 5-8. Party goers are asked to wear their best gaudy princess attire. Register and pay the $5 fee by June 6.
• Daddy Daughter Date Night is planned just in time for Father’s Day. Daughters are asked to bring dads out for a night of dinner and dancing. Date night is June 18 from 7-9 p.m. Photos will be available for $5 each. The $10 per person fee should be paid no later than June 16 to reserve your places.
• The annual Luau at the Hartselle Pool will be July 17 from 7-10 p.m. at the Hartselle Pool. There will be a DJ, tropical decorations, exciting games, special concessions and plastic leis for everyone. The fee is $5 for ages 7 and up ($3 with a pass) and $3 for ages 6 and under ($2 with a pass).
• The Gorgeous Grandmas pageant will be July 23. There will be make-up consultants and hairstylists available prior to the event to help prepare for the pageant that begins at 10 a.m. Entertainment and games planned. There is no entry fee to the pageant. Registration is required no later that July 21. Anyone ages 60 and older that would like to have lunch with should contact Ann at 773-0786 to make arrangements.
• Recreation Celebration is set for July 31 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at EARTH Park. The event is planned in honor of National Recreation Month. There will be craft and food vendors, children’s play area, games for the family, a scavenger hunt, ice cream eating contest, and much more. There will also be the first Little Miss EARTH Park pageant for girls ages 2-5. You must register for the pageant by July 25. This event is free to the public. If you are interested in being a vendor, call the Civic Center for more information. In case of rain, event will be held at the civic center.
• The Back to School dance is for ages 11-15. It will be Aug. 20 from 7-10 p.m. at the Civic Center. Admission is $5. There will also be concessions available. Parents, remember that your child will not be allowed to leave the building without an adult. Also, we need chaperones. If you are interested call the Civic Center at 773-2581. If we do not have volunteers, the dance will be canceled.
• Area seniors ages 55 and older are encouraged to attend the Hartselle Senior Nutrition Center. Seniors enjoy food, fun and fellowship in their new building Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – noon. Call in advance so there will be a meal prepared. For those unable to attend but are interested in homebound meals, call Ann at 773-0786.
• Hartselle Football Inc. registration will be May 25 and 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the lower baseball field concession and again June 5, 12, and 19 from 9-11 a.m. at the youth football press box. Cheerleader registration will also be on June 5, 12, and 19 from 9-11 a.m. at the youth football press box. Registration fees for all cheerleaders and ages 5/6 football players is $50 and $70 for ages 7-12. The birthday cut off is Aug. 31.
• AYSO Soccer Registration will be every Monday in June from 6-8 p.m. at the Civic Center. The registration fee is $65 the amount covers registration, insurance, uniform and concession fees. Players must be between ages 4 and 18 by July 31. New players should bring birth certificate.
• Hartselle’s High School basketball teams are hosting its annual clinic June 1-4 from 8 a.m. – noon. Each participant will receive a “Hoop Squad” t-shirt. Students entering grades K-3 will be Hartselle First United Methodist. Grades 4- 6 will be in the back gym of the Civic Center. Grades 7-9 will be at the high school in J.C.Pettey Center. Registration will be the first day of the clinic. There is a fee of $75.
• Kim Ellis-Robertson will be instructing girls enter grades K-7 the basics of twirling, basic strut and a dance twirl routine during this class. Roberston is listed in the Who’s Who in Baton Twirling. The clinic will be offered June 7-9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. There will be a performance on June 9 to allow parents to see what their daughters have learned. Each student will receive a camp T-shirt. Register and pay the $35 fee by June 4.
• The annual AYSO clinic will be held June 14-18 from 8-9:30 a.m.. The fee is $37 and includes daily refreshments and a T-shirt. Participants must be at least 4 years old to attend. Each person must wear shin guards and bring a soccer ball as possible. This clinic will be at the new soccer complex on Groover Road. Register by June 11.
• MLS Clinic will be instructed by Major League Soccer players. It will be taught to boys and girls ages 9-18. This clinic will be June 14-18 from 4-7 p.m. There is a $115 fee. Contact Darrell Harris at 773-0845 for more information.
• Danny Light, USPTR tennis pro and coach of the HJHS tennis team will be teaching a beginner and intermediate clinic June 21-24 from 6-7:30 p.m. Each participant should bring a racket, a can of new, yellow Championship tennis balls, a drink and wear tennis shoes. Students should be between the ages of 7 and 16 years old. The fee is $35. Register and pay by June 18.
• Bama’s Best Baton Clinic, an advanced clinic directed by Kim Ellis-Robertson will be June 24. She is a former University of Alabama majorette. The class is for grades 8 and above. The clinic is open to solo twirlers and majorette lines. The fee for this clinic, that includes a T-shirt, is $45.
Golf Clinic- The game of golf can teach honor, respect, self-reliance and self-discipline. Learn portions of golf history, traditions, rules, expected etiquette and potential values at Quail Creek’s 2010 Junior & Wee Golf Camps. Junior Camp I is June 28-July1 and Camp II is July 12-15 (ages 7 and up). The time is 4:00-8:00pm at Quail Creek. Wee Camp I is June 28-30 and Camp II is July 12-14 (ages 3-6). The times for Wee camp are 9:00-10:30am. Junior Camps will include group and individual instruction on driving, chipping, putting and pitching. They will also play the course. Wee Camps will teach beginner golf skills. Junior Camp is $150 and Wee Camp is $50. Clubs are available for those who need them. To register, or for more information call the golf course at 784-5033.
Adventure Week- This camp will have a variety of different activities with a different theme every day. This camp will be at the civic center July 12th-16th from 9:00-11:00am. Adventure Week is for ages 6-10. The cost for the camp is $30. Supplies and snacks are included. Please register and pay by 5:00pm on July 7. The themes are as follows: Manic Monday- we will play “ice breaker” games to get to know our new friends. Tacky Tuesday- wear your “tackiest” outfit and enjoy a tacky fashion show. Western Wednesday- come dressed in your best western attire for our stick horse race and calf roping contest. Theatrical Thursday- dress in your best evening attire and enjoy a day in the life of a celebrity. We will have a talent show and make puppets. Free-For-All Friday- we will have a food fight, water gun war and watermelon seed spitting contest. Please wear old clothes for the food fight, and also bring goggles on Friday.
Karate Clinic- Donnie Chappell, head instructor at Chappell’s Family Karate will be teaching life skills in a Christian environment. This clinic is for ages 3 and up. This clinic will be taught July 19-22 at 9:00am. Ages 3-5 will attend one hour and ages 6 and up will attend for two hours. The fees are $25 and $35 respectively. This amount includes a camp T-shirt. Please pay and register at the Civic Center by July 16.
