HJHS Band wins top award
Hartselle Junior High School’s band captured first place in its division and the Best Overall Band award at the Music in the Parks Festival at Gatlinburg, Tenn. May 1.
The school’s chorus also entered the competition and finished first in its division.
Band Director Steve Vaughan said 44 band members were involved in the competition. They competed against seven other bands in Class A (schools with an enrollment of 700 or less) and were judged against all 15 schools in the competition for “Best Overall Band.”
The school won the same awards in 2005.
“I was extremely pleased with the way our students performed,” Vaughan stated.
“They worked hard in practice and represented our school and community really well. It was definitely a musical highlight of the 2009-10 school year. “
