Funeral for John “Johnny 8-9-10” Etienne Jr., 59, of Decatur was Thursday, May 27, at 7 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Dillard officiating.
On Friday, May 28, at 11 a.m. a funeral service was held at Loretto Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Loretto, Tenn., with Father Tomy and Deacon Sam Beckman officiating.
Burial followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Etienne died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at his residence. He was born May 29, 1950, in Loretto, Tenn. to John Martin Etienne Sr. and Virginia Blanche Riddle Etienne. He was an avid golfer and loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Point Mallard Independent Golfers Association (PMIGA), Knights of Columbus and Decatur Elks Lodge. He was a member of Loretto Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hilda Marks Etienne of Decatur; two sons, John Martin Etienne III and wife Christina of Alabaster and Phillip Andre Etienne and wife Misty of Loretto, Tenn.; his mother, Blanche Etienne of Loretto, Tenn.; five brothers, David Etienne, Peter Etienne, Jospeh Etienne, Andy Etienne and Brian Etienne; three sisters, Mary Marks, Emily Gillespie and Celeste Brown; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Kara, Austin, Abigail, Jamie, Anderson and Jasper Etienne; and his very special caregiver and friend, Velma Marks.
Pallbearers were Velma Marks, Ricky Marks, Mike Odom, Buddy Brown, Buford Burgess, Taco Yancey, Ken Lott and Doyle Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Hodges, Dennis Raths, members of the Decatur Elks Lodge, employees of Point Mallard Golf Course and members of the PMIGA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, Covenant School in Cullman or Loretto Sacred Heart School in Loretto, Tenn.
