Young steps down as HHS athletic director
Hartselle High’s long-time athletic director has resigned and a search is on for his replacement.
Hartselle School Board formally accepted the resignation of Bob Young as athletic director at Hartselle High School, effective June 9, at its regular meeting Monday night. Young, who had served as athletic director since 2002, will continue to serve as an assistant principal.
Young said he gave up the position in order to free up his schedule for more time with his family. His daughter, Katie, will be playing basketball later this year as a freshman scholarship player at Shelton State Community College.
“I wanted to be able to see as many of her games as possible and I couldn’t do that and be available to attend Hartselle high school athletic events at the same time,” Young said.
His son, Tyler, is also a scholarship football player, a senior, at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
The position has been posted internally and will be the subject of interviews and evaluations involving Principal Jeff Hyche and Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed over the next several weeks.
