Grant will pay for new furniture in library’s expansion
Falkville Public Library ramped up services for it users recently thanks to a $6,000 contribution divided equally between the Falkville and Morgan County Commission.
Library Board Treasurer Pam MacDonald accepted District 3’s part, a $3,000 check, from Commissioner Don Stisher. Other board members present were Rhona Summerford, president, Kay Farrer, secretary and Jane Hill and Lance Stidham, council representative.
“We were glad to help out because there was a real need here,” Stisher said. “The library staff and board members have worked hard to provide the community with a library they can be proud of.”
The money will be used to pay for computer and circulation desks and furniture for the library’s new east wing. This addition, which was previously used by the fire and police departments, now serves as the location for the library’s customer service desk and 10 public access computers.
“We didn’t have a lot of money when we started upgrading but what we had we put to good use,” said Stidham.
“Our goal for the library is for it to continue to grow and improve.”
Other amenities provided through the library’s $65,000 upgrade project include a new east wing entrance and sidewalk, a children’s room with glass viewing panel and an office for Librarian Jennifer Asherbranner.
Phases two and three of the project will involve upgraded handicap access and renovation of a second floor when funds become available.
