Woman killed in motorcycle accident
A collision involving a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle claimed the life of a Hartselle woman on Highway 31, north, in Hartselle Friday night.
Killed in the accident was Gayla Stickles, 49, a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her husband, Richard Stickles, 51. She was thrown from the motorcycle when it collided with the rear end of a sports utility vehicle between Lowe’s and the Highway 31 and Sparkman Street intersection.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. as both vehicles were moving south on Highway 31, according to Hartselle Police Investigator Lt. Justin Barley.
Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard pronounced Mrs. Stickles dead at the wreck site at 10:55 p.m.
Mr. Stickles sustained injuries and was taken to Hartselle Medical Center by Morgan County EMS. He was later airlifted to Huntsville hospital where he was hospitalized with a fractured pelvis and other injures. He was later released to his home on Elizabeth Drive.
Barley said an investigation as to the cause of the accident is continuing.
