Benefit singing set for Aug. 21

A benefit singing for Wayne Boyer will be held Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. in Pine Street Church at Falkville. Guest singers will be Three in One and The Crossmen.

Hint for this week
It is not what you say, it is the way you say it.

Mustard sauce
2 tbsp. margarine or butter
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 cup milk
1 tbsp. prepared mustard
Simmer 10 minutes

Meats and “go with” vegetables
Chicken – Corn, lime beans, peas and sweet potatoes

Cooking tips for this week: Do not serve two dishes at the same time with any of the same ingredients; don’t serve two kinds of potatoes at the same time; do not serve two types of vegetables that are in the same family, such as turnip greens or cabbage.

Waldorf Salad
1 1/2 cup diced red apples
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 cup diced celery
1 cup mayonnaise
Lettuce
1 cup chopped walnuts
Sprinkle apples with lemon juice. Add celery and mayonnaise, mixing well.
Arrange on lettuce leaves on six salad plates or in a salad bowl. Fill with salad mixture.
Sprinkle with walnuts just before serving.
