Lady Tigers go 2-6 against Iron Man’s talented field
HUNTSVILLE – Hartselle, ranked second in Class 5A, finished 2-6 in the Iron Man Volleyball Invitational Saturday.
The Lady Tigers beat Hutchinson of Memphis, Tenn. 25-17, 25-17 and Vestavia Hills 15-25, 25-21, 15-12.
Hartselle’s losses came against Huntsville, St. Agnes of Memphis, Tenn., Henry Clay from Lexington, Kent., Independence and Grissom.
Olivia Golden had a team-high 48 kills with three aces, three blocks and 50 digs. Chelsea Bennich added 58 digs, three aces and an assist.
Katelynn Hill added 30 kills, while Kaylee Shelton and Taylor Lybarger finished with 13 and 12 kills respectively.
Savanne Howard had a team-high 58 assists. Elizabeth Russell added 42 assists, 10 aces and 22 digs.
Howard also chipped in four kills, four aces, 11 digs and a block. Shelton had nine blocks.
West Morgan tourney
No. 6 ranked Danville reached bracket play in the West Morgan Invitational Saturday before a 23-25, 25-23, 17-15 loss to Madison County ended the Lady Hawks’ afternoon.
In pool play Danville beat Ardmore 25-21, 25-20 before second-ranked Winston County defeated Danville 25-12, 25-14.
The Lady Hawks finished pool play 2-1 after picking up a 25-21, 19-25, 15-9 victory over Deshler.
Ashley Nance had team-highs of seven blocks and 28 kills in the tournament.
Lacey Evans added 19 digs for Danville, while Morgan Doherty chipped in with five aces.
Sydni Shelton had five blocks, while Lindsay Simmons tallied 26 kills. Kaitlin Wallace had 82 assists in the tournament.
Priceville suffered three losses in the tournament, including a tough 25-23, 25-21 loss to Muscle Shoals.
The Lady Bulldogs also lost to Madison County 25-16, 25-23 and to Good Hope 25-21, 15-25, 15-5.
Darian Tucker led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Molly Thompson added 14 kills for Priceville, while Jordan Crow finished with 12 digs. Katie Barker added 20 assists, and Sydney McLendon had six aces and was 22-of-25 in serving.
Danville splits pair
Danville went 1-1 in the tri-match. After a 21-25, 25-23, 28-26 hard-fought loss to Hartselle, Danville rebounded to beat Austin 25-21, 25-14.
Lindsay Simmons had 24 kills to lead the Lady Hawks. Ashley Nance and Sydni Shelton had 18 and 12 kills respectively.
Kaitlin Wallace finished with 52 assists, 11 digs, three blocks and four aces. Lacey Evans added 12 digs.
Morgan Doherty chipped in with three aces.
Hartselle splits matches
Hartselle beat Madison Academy 25-23, 20-25, 15-10, but lost to Grissom 25-17, 25-14 in a tri-match.
Katelynn Hill had 28 kills, four blocks and four digs to lead Hartselle in the matches.
Olivia Golden added 22 kills and 23 digs for the Lady Tigers. She also had an assist and an ace.
Katie Clark chipped in with 10 kills, three blocks and two digs. Savanne Howard had a team-high 31 assists with four kills, four digs and an ace.
Chelsea Bennich had 21 digs for the Lady Tigers.
Elizabeth Russell contributed 11 assists and five digs, while Kelwy Bonner had 17 digs.
