Officer injured in vehicle accident

A Hartselle police officer is recovering after being involved in a traffic accident in Decatur Sept. 30.
Decatur Police Department responded to a two-car accident at Highway 31 South and Lenwood Road SE around 10:37 a.m. Officers said they determined Bertha Cecile Priebe failed to yield the right-of-way when she was crossing Highway 31 as she left Vieux Carre Apartments, striking Hartselle Corrections Officer Gary Wayne Branham in the driver’s side.
Early reports said Branham had inmates that were possibly trapped in the vehicle, however, it was later determined only the two drivers were involved. Priebe refused treatment at the scene and Branham was taken to Decatur General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Decatur police said no charges are expected to be filed in relation to the accident.
