Commission votes to renovate building for Parks & Recreation
Morgan County Com-mission is moving forward with plans to renovate a vacant building for Morgan County Parks and Recreation personnel.
The governing body voted unanimously to award the project to G-Core Contracting of Decatur on a bid of $48,190.
The building is located on the site of the District 2 shop on Shull Road in Hartselle. It was used by Parks and Recreation personnel until it was closed due to termite damage about four years ago. Since that time the department has operated out of offices in Huskey Park.
The scope of work includes the installation of a 2’ x 4’ foot false wall on one side of the building, a new wall and door in the entrance area, a handicap accessible restroom, repainting the interior and exterior as well as various repairs and minor im-provements.
The project is expected to be completed within six to eight weeks.
During a discussion of a proposed new courthouse parking lot, commissioners offered suggestions to architect John Godwin about how to proceed with a design.
They agreed that it should be configured in keeping with the downtown Decatur Streetscape, have an entrance on Davis Street and an exit on Oak Street and have angular parking spaces as well as handicapped parking.
The lot is located on the fsite of the old jail annex building and will provide parking for about 100 vehicles when completed.
The commission acted on other matters as follows:
• Authorized payment of $1,000 to the Walking Horse Association of Ala-bama from the Tourism, Recreation and Conven-tion Fund.
