Hartselle to stay dry, voters OK board change

Efforts to legalize alcohol sales in Hartselle have failed.

According to city officials, some 3,158 people voted against legalizing alcohol sales in the city vs. 2,691 in favor of the change.

A similar effort in Priceville appears to have passed by one vote, however provisional ballots that won’t be counted until next Tuesday could change those numbers.

In another local initiative, the measure to change how Hartselle’s school board is selected passed by a wide margin. The move to change from an appointed school board to an elected one was approved 4,583 votes to 1,219.
