Falkville News

Thought for this week: It isn’t what you say but the way you say it.

Sea Food Dressing
1 can condensed cream of shrimp soup
1 cup mayonnaise
2 cups chopped boiled egg
In a bowl combine ingredients, serve on crisp greens or seafood. Makes three cups.

Cheese Straws
1 cup butter
1 pound sharp cheese, grated
2 cups flour
Salt to taste
Red pepper to taste

Cream the butter, add cheese, flour, salt and red pepper. Mix well. String onto cookie sheet with cookie press. Slit strings to 4-inch lengths. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Cranberry Tea
1 quart cranberries
4 quarts water
2 cups sugar
12 whole cloves
1/2 cup red hot cinnamon candies
Juice of three lemons
Juice of three oranges
Cook cranberries in one quart water. Strain. Add 3 quarts water, sugar, cloves, cinnamon candies to cranberry water. Bring to a boil. Add lemon and orange juice. Serve hot.

Hot Spice Tea
1 tsp. whole cloves
1 stick cinnamon
6 cups water
2 1/2 tbsp. black tea
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
Place spices in cloth bag, drop in water. Bring to a boil and simmer. Place tea in a cloth bag, drop into water. Steep for five minutes. Heat fruit juices and sugar just to boiling. Stir to dissolve sugar and add hot tea. Makes eight servings.
