Pickens’ plan is right for country
Editor:
T. Boone Pickens has developed a plan of becoming independent of foreign oil as a source of energy. In this letter, we are showing why we believe so strongly in Pickens’ Plan.
To start off, the Pickens Plan is a proposal to rid the United States of dependance on imported oil. America uses 25 percent of the oil produced in the world each day with only 4 percent of the population, and that is not sustainable. Not only is our dependance on imported oil frightening, it is also the Taliban’s number one source of income, with whom we are currently at war. With all these numbers adding up, America surprisingly has a natural gas reservoir larger than Iran and Russia combined.
Pickens’ Plan is also logical for our economy by creating millions of jobs by exploiting our natural gas reservoir. Along with the natural gas reservoir, Pickens also mentioneds that by harvesting available wind energy America could create up to 138,000 new jobs in the first year, and more than 3.4 million new jobs over a 10-year period, while also producing as much as 20 percent of our needed electricity.
The Pickens Plan is a bridge to the future – a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives, and to buy us time to develop even greater new technologies.
This is a change that America can believe in. More information on the Pickens Plan can be found at www.PickensPlan.com.
