Estes named interim clerk
Dawn Estes, who has served as Falkville’s court magistrate for the past three years, has been appointed interim town clerk, a position being vacated by Belinda Ealey, the newly appointed chief administrator for the Morgan County Commission.
Estes, 42, was appointed magistrate in January 2008 after training for the job on a part-time basis while continuing to serve as librarian. Subsequently, she earned her magistrate’s certification through the University of Alabama’s Continuing Studies Program.
“Dawn (Estes) is cross-trained in the duties of town clerk and I have the utmost confidence in her ability to handle the job,” Mayor Jimmie Walker said. “I expect the town council to decide on a full-time town clerk around the first of next year. ”
He said although Ealey has assumed the administrator’s job, she will continue on the town’s payroll until she has used her accrued vacation time around the end of this year.
Estes is a 1986 graduate of Falkville High School. Her husband Neil, is a teacher and assistant boy’s basketball coach at Falkville High. They have three children, Lauren, a junior at UAH, Natalee, a senior at Falkville High and Aaron, a freshman at Falkville High.
