Eight players on Brewer’s roster scored in the championship game. Garrett Tucker came off the bench to hit an early 3-pointer in the win. Tucker, Matthew Whittle and Kyle Speigle gave the Patriots six key points off the bench and plenty of solid defensive play.
“Our subs really made the difference for us in the championship,” said Brewer head coach Sam Brown. “We really had some guys step up down the stretch for us.”
Priceville was led by Matt Teague’s 13-point effort. John Hawkins added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Brewer reached the championship game to face Priceville with wins over Danville and West Morgan.
The Patriots started the season with a 1-3 record before sweeping three wins in four days during the tournament.
“We played three 6A teams in the first four games,” Brown said. “We kind of dug ourselves a little hole with the schedule but the guys are starting to play pretty well.”
Priceville stayed close in the first half and was down by three points heading into the second half.
But the Bulldogs struggled from the field in the fourth quarter, getting all of their four points on free throws.
“We played good for about three quarters,” said Priceville head coach Darrell Haynes. “We just allowed their pressure to hurt us in the fourth quarter.”
Priceville dropped to 3-4 overall with the loss after opening the tournament with wins over Tanner and Brindlee Mountain.
Danville 58, Brindlee Mountain 42
Erick Cordova scored 23 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, as Danville handled Brindlee Mountain in a consolation game.
